To support this year’s Place2Be Mental Health Awareness Week, we are sharing a free wellbeing resource us to support us to think about what helps children feel safe, included, and understood.

We know belonging isn’t about fitting in or doing things “the right way.” For many children, it’s about feeling seen, heard, and safe when life feels overwhelming. It’s about knowing it’s okay to pause, take a breath, or step back when they need to.

For the children we support, belonging often looks like:

  • Having someone believe them when they feel overwhelmed
  • Being able to take a break or regulate without worry or punishment
  • Learning simple words to describe what’s happening in their body and mind
  • Feeling understood, not “broken”
  • Knowing there’s at least one trusted adult who will listen and speak up for them
  • Engaging in their own way, even when the world around them doesn’t change

For children dealing with constant overwhelm, unmet needs, or differences in how they experience the world, this kind of belonging isn’t just a “nice to have”, it can protect their mental health.

Feeling believed, valued, and supported helps them cope, stay connected, and keep going, even when things are tough.

To support this, we’ve created a wellbeing pack.  This is a free set of short, practical activities to help children notice their feelings, manage overwhelm, practise kind self-talk, and reflect.

The pack includes simple tools that children can use in ways that suit them. There’s no pressure to do everything, and no “right” way to use it.

Families, schools, and professionals can dip in, repeat pages, or return to the activities on days when things feel tough or too much.

The pack is flexible, accessible, and supportive,  especially for children who need clear, practical ways to understand and manage their feelings.

While we’re launching the pack for Mental Health Awareness Week, it’s designed to be used anytime, whenever a child could do with a bit of extra support.
